OUR FAMILY
WALLY'S TRIBE
Life for Wally's Gang has remained the same in 2015, with the exception of his great granddaughter, Caroline, who is now almost two.
Here's a quick peek at some of them. (Hover mouse for caption.)
JEFF & SUSIE - Still teaching Kindergarten full time. Jeff continues teaching and playing trumpet with his band. We are so blessed to have them nearby on Whidbey. Free time is spent on their Nonsuch Sailboat. KAREN & RICK - Karen is still a vet, Rick still teaches high school. Outdoor adventure lovers, they took over our tent trailer this past summer and send us amazing camping photos. COLIN, MERCY & CAROLINE - They've probably had the biggest changes, or at least the most frequent--lots of diapers! Our great granddaughter Caroline turned one year old a week before Thanksgiving 2014. We've had the joy of seeing the recent holidays through her eyes. Life will no longer remain constant for these three! REESE - We've missed Reese this year, as he's spent much of his time in Afghanistan. His beautiful photos are so amazing we decided to leave them below here for you to enjoy. |
PENNY'S CLANMuch smaller than Wally's, but what we lack in number we make up for in beauty and brilliance.
(Just kidding!)

OUR BELOVED CANINE FRIENDS
Our two beloved dogs, JACEY and SUBIRA, now both over thirteen years old, are a major part of our family. They keep us young and smiling. We all enjoy the many off-leash dog parks on our island. Subira lets us know with a not-so-subtle slap from her paw when it's time for a walk. |

ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS
The older we get, the more frequently we experience the passing of loved ones. This seemed to be the year of departure especially for mothers and grandmothers, both for us and for many of our close friends. Our hearts to out to all who have lost a loved one.
We want to pay special homage to two very dear women. Kate lost her Grandma Kate Zylstra at age 97 spring of 2014. Grandma Kate was one strong woman. I'll never forget how she attended Jeff and Kate's wedding a few days after having a colonoscopy that went wrong. Weak as she was, she was determined not to miss that event. She was a guiding force in the lives of all who knew her.
One of the few women in my my life that earned the title of "My Other Mother" was Tindy Marshall who lived many years in New England, but moved to Washington in the 1970s. Long-time business associates and friends of Paul's parents, the Marshalls became OUR family when we lived in Concord, Massachusetts. When Paul and I lived in Southern California, Tindy and Morgan often visited us there. In fact, Tindy was a frequent baby sitter for Chris and Jeff, allowing me to take a ceramics class with my sisters in Los Angeles. Tindy spent the past few years in an assisted living facility in Bellevue, and I stopped in to see here whenever I was in the area. She passed away this fall, but will remain always in my heart.
